Despite the constant rain soaking the streets of Cologne, the Spanish indie rock band, Hinds, brought their vivacity and banging tracks to Artheater’s sweaty venue on Friday night. When it comes to Hinds, a huge smile is instantly glued to my face. Seeing them live is a beautiful combination of how much they care about the energy and emotion behind their songs, and how much they don’t give a fuck about other silly things in life.
Listening to their music live compared to the recorded experience is always a fun contrast. Live, they stick with their carefree, DIY attitudes and play loud garage-rock music. Frontwomen, Carlotta and Ana, love grabbing their microphones and heading into the crowd to dance and sing with their passionate fans (like me pictured below) during songs like „Davey Crockett“ and „Rookie„.

Highlights of the show were definitely songs off their latest album, I Don’t Run. „Tester“ is always a fun one to see live because you get to scream along to the lyrics, „Should I’ve known before you were also banging her?!“ The song also has three very different segments that make it stand out from the rest of their tracks: the melodic, acapella intro, then into the fast-paced verses and chorus, and finally to the end for the ‚Black Sabbath‘ bit.
Seeing their live shows since 2016, it is safe to say that Hinds have shaped into a tightly knit garage-rock band that is going to continue making waves for a long time. From their loud guitar riffs, screaming lyrics, catchy basslines, and fast-paced drums, they are a band full of passion, charisma, and a good ass time.
